Song stuck in my head phenomena!!!

Is it just me or I hav pals suffering ( really??) from it too...I would seriously need your comments on this.

How many times has it happened that you wake up with a song playing in your head..u go to give your exams and the song is still playing ( not necessarily the same one)...worst u r giving not juz any exam but one of the most important exam of your life say, CAT or CEE and mind you.. it was still playing in my head!!

Man I am one of those few chronic sufferers of this phenomena. It has always been there except that it peaks in situations when you juz cant afford it.

I always asked people if they have it too and guess its a bit common but the degree to which it affects u is different. Was really happy to read an article on it in Hindu few years back.Would you believe its actually a subject of research and studies are on to understand why this happens. It said that auditory cortex in your brain is responsible for it.Usually it needs a stimuli like a context for a particular song to play in your mind. They even have a term for it , "earworms"!!

But with me...I dont see any context when the moment i get an answer sheet in examination hall and it goes" dil kabootar khana hai..har kisi ka aana jaana hai.." and by the end of it, its like "i tried so hard and got so far but in the end it does not even matter..."

The worst part the harder you try to suppress it just does nt buzz...Its something with the songs also as some are more sticky than others.Hey guys please lemme know honestly how many of you are in the same category as I am...may be we could all volunteer as subjects for the on going research and earn some easy bucks out of it :)

Here is the link of that article in Hindu for an interesting read-
http://www.thehindu.com/2006/06/23/stories/2006062302391100.htm

So what song is playing in your head rite now...its "kabhi kabhi aditi zindagi...." for me. You are wondering about the timing of this piece..no prizes for guessing... my examinations are on!!!!

Hey...
I used to c the link of ur blog as ur gtalk status message and used to religiously for new posts..So finally u have a new entry...and ya even i suffer from this phenomenon!!!!

It started with the song from ajnabee "Mehbooba mehbooba" by Adnan Sami that became a rage in 2001. I was supposed to take this mock screening at PIE and this song was running over my head all the time...and i got a pretty pathetic percentile. Then as I went on to NSIT, i really didnt mind a song getting stuck in my head during exams coz they were in any case very boring or rather they werent the 'make or break' kind of exams..

Ya but this phenomenon used to bug me when i was taking mocks or simply trying to study. I generally started the practice of avoiding listening to such songs in case they used to interfere with my concentration...

hey dhoopi...v never discussed this in college man!! hmmm i happened to read a piece in a book by Aurobindo juz aise hi..there was a chapter on mental disturbances....it said it juz takes a moment to disconnect yourself from your thinking process and the noises can stop...but they wont wen u consciously try to do it..so juz ignore them and they can die...it works most of the times....try it..

TO add to the previous post....fa me it does not end with a song it goes on to the video....as vivid as it can possibly get....well i guess visual imagery is even more distracting......

I think you should really get yourself brain mapped.

This phenomenon is not only utterly disturbing for you but also for the others who are emotionally attached to you.

Say for example this DISEASE juz does not leave you instead starts to manifest itself on other sensory parts....DISASTER moti...DISASTER..

Soch, in future you are talkn to your mother in law and your mind is not only listening to the Song..."Sar khailyo Khatiya Jaada Lage"...or "Chad Gaya Upar re"....but also visualising them.....

Ram, Ram , Ram....ye din dekhna pada....to dost tyu meri nazro mein jitna neeche ab hai....usse 100 goona neeche gir jaayega...thn even SHAMOSHA wonlt be able to save u.....

Get Well Soon !!!!!
